Signs Your Marriage is Headed for Divorce

Divorce

Every marriage has its troubles, but not every bump on the road is cause for a divorce. However, it can be difficult to ascertain when a marriage hits the point of no return and can no longer work. Generally, there are at least a few contributing factors to a marriage’s failure. We put together some warning signs that may indicate it is time for a divorce, but you will ultimately have to decide what is right for you and your future happiness.

Noticing the Red Flags

Everyone fights and has disagreements, but if you rarely have a moment of peace with your spouse, this could be a red flag that may indicate something is a little more than amiss in your marriage. Frequent arguments may be particularly alarming if you often speak to each other with disrespect. Regardless of what your problems may be, going for the low blow and slinging insults is a big red flag.

Here are some other signs that may indicate it may be time for a divorce:

  • You or your spouse lost interest in physical intimacy: Sex is not all there is to a marriage and it is expected that sex drives may fluctuate during a marriage, but if sexual desires are completely absent, this is generally a bad sign. Moreover, it is not uncommon for emotional intimacy to be lacking in a marriage where physical intimacy is low or non-existent.
  • You avoid each other: Of course, having some alone time is necessary for anyone now and then, but spouses should also relish the time they share together instead of actively trying to avoid it.
  • You constantly criticize each other: Constructive criticism is an essential part of life. However, if your constructive criticism crossed the line into more negative territory, there may be trouble in your marriage, especially if you can never seem to say anything nice about each other.
  • You grew apart: Ideally, spouses should grow together as the years go on. Unfortunately, in some cases, time makes spouses grow apart as their core values and goals evolve and change. If you no longer want the same things, this is a major red flag.
