Safe Exchange Zone Established in Virginia

Chesterfield County, Virginia has established a "safe exchange zone" in a courthouse complex parking lot. Among other reasons, the idea was formed in order to create a space where families could safely meet during child custody exchanges. The Chesterfield Sheriff's Office explains that the cameras surrounding the area will increase security and be handy in the event of illegal activity.

Anyone is allowed to use the three converted parking spots, and may prove to be helpful for those selling items to strangers via Craigslist. "It's more of a public place, and you don't have to worry about someone coming to your home, or meeting behind a gas station and (facing) the possibility of getting robbed," Chesterfield Lt. Stephen McLeod added.
