California Child Forced to Move in with Choctaw Relatives
A family in Santa Clarita, CA became the foster home for a 6-year-old girl four year ago, but Los Angeles County social workers arrived this Monday to relocate her with family in Utah. The girl is part Choctaw, and the Indian Child Welfare Act strives to prevent family members from being separated by adoption or foster homes.
Protestors gathered in the neighborhood to support the Page family, where the young girl was living along with the Pages’ three children. The family grew very close to the girl, and they felt she had become part of their family. Though the family tried to plead with officials, the girl was picked up by a social worker to be taken to her family. She has gotten to visit with her Utah relatives many times and will be living with her biological sister.
