Child Support Bill Passes in Idaho

In Idaho, only 16 percent of non-custodial parents make child support payments. Several members of the House and Senate met last Monday to go over ways to increase these numbers.

A bill called HB1 was proposed to ensure this percentage improves and to help keep the state's funds. If the bill did not pass, the state could lose approximately $16 million in federal child support enforcement funds on June 12, according to The Spokesman-Review. There are also tens of millions of dollars for needy families that could disappear. The result was a vote of 33-2 in favor of HB1. The next step is seeing where it goes once it reaches the Governor.
