A Texas woman, and mother of five children, is being investigated after three of her children drowned in an Irving, Texas pool in June. Patricia Allen, age 30, was at an apartment complex using the pool but was not paying attention to the three children in the water. Two of her children, ages 3 and 6, were with Allen out of the water, but the mother was reportedly sending text messages on her phone while the three oldest children sank to the bottom of the pool. When witnesses discovered the scene, Allen was sitting on the edge of the pool, staring into the deep in where the children were. By that point, there was no sign of life from the three children. The mother admitted later that the children could only float or tread water and were not taught how to swim. The two surviving children were taken by Child Protective Services, and the mother was charged with “injury to a child” which could result in up to a 20 year sentence.
