Abuse at Sleepover; 4 Children in Protective Custody

This past Friday, four children who attended a friend’s sleepover have been placed in protective custody after one reported that her friend was pulled out by her legs from her bed in the middle of the night by her mother and slapped several times. Police officers soon arrived on the scene (near Seneca and Harry) and saw bruises on both eyes with swelling on the left eye.

The siblings of the child have also been placed in protective custody (girls ages 14 and 10, boy age 10) on the basis of unsuitable living conditions. A 45-year-old man who is the father of at least one of the children was arrested on suspicion of obstructing and interfering with a police investigation. The 38-year-old mother has been questioned but not arrested. The Exploited and Missing Child Unit is investigating the incident further and additional action is possible.

The 9-year-old friend has been praised for her courage in speaking out and reporting the incident of abuse.
